2024- Chris Wasem and Family

The Wasem’s are the 3rd generation to be ranching in the Halliday area of Dunn County. While they are not on the original family farm, Chris and Jolyn took over a close relative’s operation to keep it in the family. To improve their soil health, they have been operating a 100% No-Till operation for 16 years and using crop rotation. Believing and seeing the importance of crop rotation, they try to plant something different in each field each year, while also rotating their hay land with cropland every 5-8 years. The Killdeer Field Office has assisted the Wasem’s with multiple practices including grass seedings, cover crops, and tree plantings. Additionally, they helped with a saline seep area on their land, by planting salt tolerant grasses and legumes in the seep area, and hay land grasses in the recharge area. Installation of pipelines, water tanks, and a water well have helped to improve their grasslands for better grazing distribution, which their registered Red Angus herd depends on. The Wasem’s recommend young producers take advantage of the programs that are available to them and plant more trees! Thank you, Wasem family, for getting conservation on the ground in Dunn County!

Congratulations Chris, Jolyn, Kacee, and Braelyn Wasem!
